In this activity, learners watch a video that explores the communication challenges contributing to the RMS Titanic disaster. Following the video, the facilitator leads a discussion prompting learners to share their insights on the problems encountered by the Titanic's communication system. The facilitator uses participants’ ideas to create a list of challenges, and prompts them to consider potential solutions that could have averted miscommunications. The discussion extends to a comparison of contemporary communication practices with those of 1912, inviting learners to contemplate the role of people and society in preventing future disasters related to radio communications. This activity encourages a reflective exploration of historical events and their implications for improving communication systems in our society.
