RADIO EVERYWHERE

You’re surrounded by radio.
We’re making it visible.

FEATURED ACTIVITIES

Capstone Design Radio Project

Activity, Craft

Plan a radio communication design solution to help those affected by a natural disaster.

30-45 minutes

microbit

camp

Exploring Circuits

Activity

Learners build physical circuits and use a computer simulation to explore how energy flows, compare series and parallel circuits, and examine how voltage and current affect circuit behavior.

30-45 minutes

Batteries (AA or D-cell), E10 mini lightbulbs, insulated wires

individual, small groups, pairs, camp

Transistors

Activity

Learners build a series of circuits to explore how resistors, switches, sensors, and transistors control light. The activities progress from basic circuits to a smart light-sensitive circuit and conclude with a blinking light circuit that demonstrates how transistors can create timed patterns.

30+ minutes

Breadboard, 3V battery, LED, tactile button, photoresistor (LDR), NPN transistors (2N2222), resistor 100Ω, resistor 1KΩ, resistor 10KΩ, resistor 100KΩ, capacitor 100μF, capacitor 10μF, wires

About Making Waves

The Making Waves activities explore the science and social impacts of radio frequency technology. They are designed for science educators in science centers and community-based organizations, but have been used in classrooms and by kids and parents at home.
